SPYDER Review : Good Plot….Badly Scripted!

Ever since the combination of Mahesh and Murugadoss is announced, SPYDER generated enormous craze among the audience. This much awaited spy thriller has hit the screens today. Made on a lavish budget, the movie has renowned cast and crew.

Mahesh is undoubtedly the biggest asset of the movie and he performed extremely well as usual. Rakul Preet Singh played the female lead and she is hardly seen in the film except for the songs. It is SJ Surya who stole the show with his performance as a villian. His character is well designed and he looks perfect for his role and stuns the audience. Priyadarshi got a good role he did it recently. Rakul, Bharath, Shiyaji shinde etc are wasted.

Santosh Sivan’s cinematography is very good. Music by Harris Jairaj is good in Background score but is just okay in the songs. These non-catchy songs are further spoiled by placing them like speed breakers in the flow of the movie.

Screenplay is not so smooth. The narration is not so gripping especially in the second half. There are many illogical scenes and the technology the protagonist uses at times has gone overboard and unrealistic. Visual effects in the movie are good in parts but lacks quality in some places which might be because of the time constraints. Editing is decent but songs could have been chopped off which clearly disturbed the flow of the movie. Production values are good.

Pros:
Mahesh, Surya
Cinematography
Plot
Interval scenes

Cons:
Missing logics
Songs
Rushed climax

Overall, the movie has some interesting and thrilling moments yet lacks the punch. Performances of Mahesh and SJ Surya, few action episodes make this movie a decent watch.
