VIP 2 Review : Sequel is not up to the mark

VIP 2 starring Dhanush, Kajol, Amala Paul and Ritu Varma is directed by Soundarya Rajnikanth and produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu. Story is given by Dhanush himself and as we all know, VIP 2 is a sequel for Dhanush’s earlier super hit movie Raghuvaran B.tech. The music and background score of VIP 2 is given by Sean Roldan and camera work is handled by Sameer Thahir. Let’s see if the team of VIP 2 was successful in getting the right sequel of Raghuvaran B.tech.

VIP 2 is an extension to Raghuvaran B.tech where we see Raghuvaran (Dhanush) and Shalini (Amala Paul) evolving as a better pair and being more responsible after the death of Raghuvaran’s mother in the first part. Apart from the character of Vasundhara (Kajol) who played the role of a business tycoon, rest of the characters are almost the same as the original version.

Dhanush looked routine in his role and Amala Paul was apt as his wife. Kajol had a big role but somehow failed to impress. Samuthirakani and Hrishikesh were seen similar to what we saw in Raghuvaran. Rest of the cast was adequate.

As far as technical crew goes, Direction is very weak. All the scenes looked routine and predictable. Music and back ground score could have been better. Cinematography is not great either. Editing is crisp with a run time of about 2 hour 20 minute. Production values are mediocre. More interesting dialogues and interesting screenplay could have saved the movie. The movie loses the track completely all over the second half especially in the climax.

Overall, this sequel definitely disappoints and does not live upto its expectations.

Pros:

·         Comedy in bits and parts
·         Decent message

 Cons:

·         Direction
·         Predictable Story
·         Music and Back ground score
·         Cinematography
·         Low Production Values

Box-Office AnalysisVIP 2 is not a correct sequel of Raghuvaran. To say it in one sentence, this sequel fails to impress. It might not work well at box office.

PS: Please note that this review completely reflects our reviewer’s personal opinion and taste. What we didn’t like might be good for others. So please do watch the movie in theaters and help fight piracy.
